1st Annual B Girl Be: A Celebration of Women in Hip - Hop. June 4th, 2005 : Yes, yes ya'll! It was most definitely going down this past Saturday at the B-Girl Be: A Celebration of Women In Hip-Hop Summit, hosted by the Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis. X-Chromosomes were in full EFFECT. I'm talking about all-female dance crews, rap & spoken word artists, doing their thing and then some. Who got busy with with it ? Asia One (No Easy Props) w/ Shorty & Beta, DJ Kuttin'Kandi (The Anomalies), Palsm One w/ DJ Spontaneous (Rhymesayers) Desdamona and Carnage, PaviElle, Sarah White (Traditional Methods), Dessa Darling, Indigo, and Niyahbingai. Just to name a few . . . And, for the first time in the Midwest, the Intermedia Arts building was painted by an all- female crew. ZORI4 (Puerto Rico) lead the collaboration of five female artists from across the United States. ASIA ONE (Los Angeles), PHEM9 (Kansas City), SILOETTE (Phoenix), Amy Swenson (Minneapolis) and TOO FLY (NYC) got nice with their spray cans, setting the building a blaze, through out the three days of the summit. And,let's not forget the Visual Art Exhibitions co-presented by the Juxtaposition Arts, featuring work by women who paint on walls, clothing, wood, vinyl, canvas, toasters & more! America, I was in need of an event like this; something refreshing and inspirational that makes me wanna bust a move and sing and paint and be free and be me, like them B-Girls be . . . So anyhoo,check out the photos and enjoy. We was having us some fun. It was a true delight to see so many people come together for the love of books. May Day 2006 - Powderhorn Park, Minneapolis, MN : Spring has sprung. I'se was hanging out with alla the "Tree Huggers" and other Wacky "South Siders" (I missed the parade though). Oh, and then there was breakfast at my new favorite diner, "The Bad Waitress". "Held on the first Sunday of each May, HOBT's MayDay Parade and Festival is eagerly anticipated by thousands who flock to the parade route and ceremony site to join this joyous spring ritual. For many, this is the highlight of the year, as they donate countless volunteer hours needed to bring beautiful and fantastic puppets and floats to life. MayDay is a testament to COMMUNITY. Bachelor Boy Entertainment presents the "Harlem Nights Steppers Set and Comedy Club" June 2004 : Quickie Lesson: Steppin', is a distinctive Chicago-bred style of swing dancing that is spreading across the country. The dancers are cooler than cool, executing intricate moves best described with one word - SMOOTH. Steppers are a sight to see, showcasing slickly choreographed moves that sometimes are rivaled by flamboyantly colorful outfits. This style of dance has been in the works for at least four decades, way prior to R Kellys homage "Step In The Name Of Love". Recognize! With that being said, I present to you a lovely ensemble of my people working it out at the "Harlem Nights Steppers Set/Comedy Club" featuring Michael Coylar - Minneapolis, MN.
